Why the section is missing
Inventory valuation lives in the stock_account module, the bridge between Inventory and Accounting. Odoo usually installs it automatically when both apps are present, but databases where one app was installed long after the other, or where modules were removed during testing, can end up without it.
The fix
- Open Apps.
- Remove the default "Apps" filter in the search bar, then search for
stock_account. - Click Install.
Go back to Accounting → Configuration → Settings and refresh. The Inventory Valuation section is now there, with automated valuation, stock accounts per product category and the costing options.
Before you switch on automated valuation
- Set the costing method (standard, average or FIFO) on each product category first.
- Check the stock input, stock output and stock valuation accounts on every category you use.
- On a live database, automated valuation posts journal entries from the moment it is enabled, so agree the cut-over date and the opening stock value with your accountant.
Setting up valuation across several warehouses or companies, or moving from periodic to perpetual valuation mid-year, needs a plan for the opening balances. That is work we do regularly for clients in Kuwait and the GCC.
